Protect Primary Education – Protect Class Size!
Protect Primary Education – Protect Class Size!
23rd September 2013
Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s). .
Recent figures released by the Department of Education & Skills – widely reported in the media – confirm that primary class sizes have got bigger with now almost one in four children in super-size classes of 30 or more pupils.
Class sizes in primary schools are under further threat in the forthcoming Budget. Speculation about the level of cuts required from the Education Budget has gone from a proposed €44 million to almost €100 million.
The INTO in common with other education partners has launched a campaign to protect primary education and investment in our children’s futures. The National Alliance for Primary Education includes Church of Ireland Board of Education, Catholic Primary Schools Management Association, Educate Together, An Foras Patrunachta, Gaelscoileanna, Irish National Teachers’ Organisation, Irish Primary Principals Network, National Association of Boards of Management in Special Education and the National Parents’ Council – Primary.
Over the next three weeks, the INTO is to host a series of regional public meetings to mobilise public support for the campaign to protect and defend primary education and in particular to ensure that our already overcrowded primary classrooms are not made even bigger as a result of next month’s Budget.
INTO District 5 will be hosting a Protect Primary Education – Protect Class Size meeting in:
The Boyne Valley Hotel
on
Monday 30th September at 7.30p.m.
You are cordially invited to attend this meeting
Local TDs, public representatives and the media will be invited and we hope that parent, teachers, members of Boards of Management and local communities will attend in big numbers to give a clear signal that no more cuts to our children’s education will be tolerated.
