Erasmus+ Project Meeting in Romania

Erasmus+ Project Meeting in Romania

Heather Cummins Erasmus+ Erasmus+

Le Chéile ETNS is now in the second year of its Erasmus + project ‘Magic and Myths Unite Europe’. As part of this three members of staff recently travelled to Romania to hold the first project transnational meeting of the year.

On Wednesday the 12 of October, our teachers Heather Cummins and Nicola Dempsey along with Principal Fiona Rock took off an adventure to Faget, Romania where they would lead the project’s first official meeting this year. The town of Faget, near where the partner school of Scoala Gimnaziala Fardea is located, is situated in Timis County, Banat in Western Romania.  Here they met with teachers from the other participating countries. This was the project’s first meeting of the year and the aims, logistics and progress of the project were discussed.

To begin with the teachers were given a tour of the school and given the chance to observe teaching and visit classrooms.  They saw some great art lessons and are sure to bring back some of the ideas to Ireland. The teachers were also treated to a special concert where they learned about the traditional clothes of Romania and heard some local legends and songs.

Another major part of the trip was to judge the Mascot competition. Five finalists from each country were brought to Romania. The teachers then narrowed this down to a favourite from each country and finally the winner ‘Colourful Pineapple’ by Elli Laine a 6th Grade student from Finland was picked.

However, it was not all hard work, the teachers were invited to meet the Mayor of Faget and Le Chéile presented him with a gift, a wooden plaque of a shamrock. The ‘real Dracula’s castle’ Corvin Castle in Hunedora  was explored, as well as trip to the oldest wooden  Orthodox church in the region which was great for deepening the teacher’s understanding of different religions.

This really was a worthwhile and valuable educational experience for all involved. It is great that Le Chéile is participating in such a project and strengthening its links with countries across Europe.
