CODE OF BEHAVIOUR/GUIDELINES FOR AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES (ASA’s)
-
Children should assemble in the Infant yard (classroom based ASAs) or Hall for roll call once school has finished. They should then wait quietly with the supervisor, for the activity to start. CHILDREN may not enter the Classroom before 15h15 as teachers may be still working until this time.
-
Children should arrive and depart the designated classroom/hall in an orderly fashion. Children will respect the rights of others to learn in a secure and happy atmosphere and behave in a way that allows this, as in school.
-
The tutor has responsibility for the management and education of the children for his/her activity, and children are expected to co-operate with instructions given by the tutor, as they would in school. If a child is extremely disruptive and non-cooperative, the tutor may ask the parent supervisor on site to call the parent/guardian to collect the child. Parents/Guardians will be asked to discuss the child’s behaviour with her/him to ensure that there is no repetition. Examples of misbehaviour in class are:
-
Talking in class when continuously and regularly asked not to
-
Displaying cheeky or sulky behaviour or use of bad language
-
Verbal abuse of another child, tutor or parent supervisor
-
If the inappropriate behaviour continues after reasonable warning, the parent/guardian of the child will be asked to either accompany the child at each activity, or remove him/her from the activity. No refunds will be given.
-
Children must leave the premises at 16h00/16h15 (as per their timetable). It is not the responsibility of the PTA, tutor or parent supervisor to supervise children after this time. We recommend, therefore, that parents/guardians aim to arrive at the school 10 minutes before class ends to ensure prompt collection of their children. Please do not leave your children unsupervised at school. It can distress the child and create difficulties for the Supervisor. The school gates will also be closed shortly after activity is finished.
-
Parents should have a contingency plan in place for their child should they be delayed for the pickup. Remember, it is unlikely that there will be any adults in the school after this time. We suggest that you make arrangements with other parents in your child’s after school class whom you can contact at short notice, if you are going to be late.
-
Children not enrolled in an activity must leave the school grounds at normal school closing times.
-
The PTA, tutor or supervisor is not responsible if your child fails to attend a class. Please remind your child weekly of his/her class day and ensure that they do not make their way home as per normal.
-
If your child is going to be absent from an ASA, it is the responsibility of the parent/ guardian to contact the PTA on 085 157 0067 and leave a message that they can pass onto the relevant ASA Supervisor. Please do this as early in the day as possible. The PTA does not have access to school attendance records and therefore will not be aware if your child is absent from school.
